Different species of animals aren’t guaranteed to get along. When they do, it’s worth featuring in a story. There’s an unusual living arrangement at a particular farm, and it’s something no one would expect. A hen is taking care of some puppies like they are her offspring. How did this situation happen?
You rarely get to see a chicken and a dog be in a super close relationship and this particular situation is something else. The hen named Kosoon is living inside a dog house with some puppies. According to the owner, this has been going on for over a month.
Kosoon has adapted so well to her living situation to the point where she’s no longer acting like a hen. When the owner would feed her regular chicken food, she wouldn’t eat. Even if the owner takes her somewhere else, Kosoon would always manage to escape and go back to the dog house.
The puppies are not motherless. The mother dog, Jinsoon comes to her puppies when it’s time to nurse them. After the puppies had their fill, they return to Kosoon. So it seems that the chicken is more like a nanny or co-parent.
According to the owners, Kosoon and Jinsoon were best friends before the puppies were born. After Jinsoon gave birth, Kosoon took the role of a caretaker. Jisoon only had to approach her puppies to nurse them. The division of labor made things less stressful for her. It was a good way for Jinsoon to recover.
It’s an endearing act of friendship, but it’s not free from consequences. As the puppies grow bigger, they prove too much for the chicken to handle. Bite marks can be seen on Kosoon’s wings. They fear that she might be harmed further. Before that happens, the owners took the initiative to separate Kosoon and the puppies.
To keep the chicken occupied, they gave her some eggs to sit on. When the eggs hatched, Kosoon is now faced with offspring of her own to care for. Everything seemed to work out at end of the day.
